TAG Heuer, long associated with motor racing, continues to maintain its racing heritage with its iconic Carrera and Monaco collections. The latter, born in 1969 and one of the most iconic chronograph watches in modern history, has been a canvas for innovation in recent years, including a complex and daring rattrapante version a few months ago.
With the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, TAG Heuer presents a new interpretation of its modern TAG Heuer Monaco Skeleton Chronograph, now in dark blue with a black DLC titanium case.
The Monaco Skeleton Chronograph was TAG Heuer's first attempt in a long time to present an openworked version of its iconic square chronograph, at least in the classic collection. Now joined by the much more complex and daring rattrapante edition, the Monaco Skeleton represents the futuristic side of the collection.
The overall case design is identical to all the classic models in the range, made here in sandblasted grade 2 titanium. At 15 mm thick and 47.4 mm long, the Monaco is a watch with a certain presence, and the use of lightweight titanium certainly helps in this context.
For this new edition, the case has been coated in black DLC, including the crown (at 3 o'clock) and the rectangular pushers. The watch retains its classic bevelled sapphire crystal at the top and a comfortable 100m water-resistance.
The main development is that it is now available in a beautiful dark blue tone, the result of this colour combination is very attractive.
The graphic, geometric dial, which gives a glimpse of the underlying mechanics (but not too much to spoil legibility), is composed of a sandblasted dark blue base, with an opaline blue module at the top incorporating the minute and subdials. The white Super-LumiNova carved indexes add a graphic touch by day and night.
A touch of yellow has been added to all the hands linked to the chronograph and the date is displayed by an openworked disc on a white background.
Behind the sapphire caseback lies the in-house automatic Heuer Calibre 02 (TH20-00) with 80 hours of power reserve and a frequency of 4 Hz, and a vertical column wheel and clutch architecture. The caseback reveals rhodium-plated bridges, a blackened rotor and touches of yellow on the column wheel and the imprints.
This new dark blue edition of the TAG Heuer Monaco Skeleton Chronograph, with rubber strap, dark blue calfskin leather and DLC titanium folding clasp, is now available as part of the permanent collection.
Functions; Hours, Minutes, Seconds, Chronograph: 1/4 second, 30 minute counter, 12 hour counter, Date.
